Cristian Geelen

Biography:

Cristian Geelen (1982) is mainly an analog photographer and a dedicated darkroom printer from the Netherlands, who works through the gelatin silver process. All of it which is done in his own personal darkroom.

In his early career Cristian was working as a documentary based photographer. But lately he is taking a more conceptual, contemporary, and philosophical approach for his personal work. Which mainly touches subjects like love, longing, and loss. And occasionally he incorporates in his practice the written word and poetry as well.

In his vision the print is the most important element to a photograph, and his work.

Cristian his work has been included in numerous international publications and exhibitions including L’œil de la photographie, Artdoc Magazine, Les Rencontres d'Arles Nuit de L'Année, Kaunas Photo festival, and had his work present at Paris Photo.

Prints

Cristian takes much pride in his craft not only as a photographer but also as a darkroom printer. All of his prints are handmade silver gelatin or alternative process prints and toned for archival permanence. Depending on the print toned for aesthetic reasons as well. All of the prints are printed to the highest archival standards.
